August 2016 Family Recap

Well August, what can I say?  You started with such promise!  We spent time with friends, spent a fun lunch at dad's work, played a lot, and had big plans to have summer go out with a bang!  We had concert tickets, and swim lessons scheduled, and plans to watch D play soccer together...

...and then on the 10th this happened!  I broke my foot!  I went to take the trash out back one night before bed, and stepped right off the deck into an unseen, newly dug dog hole!  I don't remember much other than laying on the grass crying, and being thankful I had my phone with me to call Pat!  That night I went to bed hoping for just a sprain, but by morning, it was pretty clear I needed to see a doctor.  After a couple appointments, it was confirmed, I broke my first metatarsal on my right foot, and was told I'd be completely non weight bearing for six weeks!  To make it worse, it is my driving foot.

This rest of August looked a whole lot like this!

I am super grateful that Pat was able to take off a few days, and then his parents came and stayed with us for a week to get us through the hardest stretch.  Also thankful for a friends who have taken the kids for play dates, and driven D to and from preschool.  It has saved us all our sanity!

The month did bring a bit of fun for the boys, we ended up selling all of our tickets to Ryan Adams, but Pat decided to take Dylan to the Wilco concert, and they had a great time!

Above all I am thankful for these two kiddos.  They have been so patient with me as I've tried to navigate around the house and take care of them.  They've given me snuggles, love, laughs, and all the things that are important in life.  I love them!

My boy, you're so big!  I marvel at how mature and grown up you seem sometimes, however, you also have those moments where I wonder when/if you'll ever outgrow epic temper tantrums!  You are quick to love and just as quick to anger, but we adore you, and cherish all the cuddles you so freely give!

You've insisted on wearing a Spiderman shirt pretty much every day, perhaps my greatest parenting moment is when I convinced you it's okay to wear other shirts, because on those days you are Peter Parker.  It's made getting dressed in the morning so much easier!
You say 'rasberry' as "RazzzzzzzzzzzBerra!"
You are obsessed with Pokemon, like it's taken over your life obsessed, it's easily 90% of all you talk about.
You've started playing soccer, and for the most part love it.  You had one rough game where we had to learn about being a good sport, but other than that, you're doing great!
You started your second year of preschool this year and of course you are loving it.
Along with preschool we signed you up for a free kindergarten readiness program offered by the state called upstart.  It is all done online at home, and so far you are kinda bored with it.  I hope it gets more challenging soon, you are just too smart!
Most words you pronounce correctly these days, expect you still say "zippy cups" instead of sippy, and instead people littering, you say "glittering" - "mom, look, someone glittered!"

And you've pretty much nailed the skill of selfies!

My sweet girl, you have been such a source of joy for me this month!  When the days are long and hard, I can always count on you for a smile and a giggle.

When I ask you if you are a big girl you say "No, I tiny!"
When something doesn't go your way you say "but, but, but, but..."
You do the same when it comes to wanting something, but it's "please, please, please...."
You've been calling me Pat lately, it took me a little to realize, you aren't calling me by your dad's name, you just think "pat" and "hey" mean the same thing.  All day long you're yelling "Pat!"
When you don't like something you scream
You've developed a mischievous little laugh that is only used when you know you're being a stinker
You've been so accident prone this month!  Tons of falls, including rolling all the way down the stairs
Lately instead of simply saying "yes" to wanting something you say "sure do!"  It's my favorite.
